Building a Portfolio Site with Claude Code

In this workshop, you’ll learn how to build and launch your own portfolio site using Claude Code and learn a ton about how to build on the web in general! We’ll walk through the full process step by step — setting up GitHub and working locally, understanding enough HTML and CSS to read what’s happening, choosing the right framework for your needs, and going live with a real domain. Three paths are available depending on your needs: a simple static site (free hosting, minimal setup), Hugo (free hosting with a structured content system), or Kirby CMS (a visual editing panel for frequent updates). No coding experience required, though of course if you have a bit of HTML and CSS knowledge it’s a bonus! This workshop is available for free for all Studioworks Members in the Studioworks community. CSS for Designers

In this workshop, you’ll learn how to think like a front-end web developer, either when working from scratch or when using AI assistants, give clearer instructions, and build incrementally rather than trying to get things right in one go. Jess has been building her own sites for over a decade without the help of AI, but her foundational knowledge about HTML, CSS, and PHP has been invaluable. It shifts the relationship with AI from a specialist contractor to a collaborative partner. Jina is a true CSS and design systems expert and will be co-presenting as an actual expert in CSS to give us all the best tips, tricks, and up-to-date foundational knowledge for creating amazing web experiences. You’ll walk away with a much deeper understanding of styling and structuring web projects and feel widely empowered to build something new.

Lettering & Type 101

This course is a clear introduction to the world of letters—what the different disciplines are, how they relate to each other, and how to start practicing. We break down the distinctions between lettering, calligraphy, type design, and typography. These terms get used interchangeably, but they're different practices with different tools, goals, and histories. The workshop covers key terminology you'll encounter across all four disciplines, historical context for how letterforms evolved, and an overview of typographic styles so you can start identifying and talking about what you’re seeing. We also get into practical starting points for each practice—what tools to pick up, what to study, and where to focus your energy early on. Whether you’re a designer looking to build stronger foundations or just curious about letters, this gives you the framework to go deeper on your own.
